$1.1m fraud: U.S. court to sentence Hushpuppi Sept 21

The United States Attorney’s Office for Central District of California, Los Angeles, has said popular internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, fondly called Hushpuppi, will be sentenced on September 21, 2022, for alleged $1.1m fraud.

The court’s Director of Media Relations, Thom Mrozek, made this known on Friday via email to Channels Television on Friday.

Hushpuppi was initially scheduled for sentencing on February 14 but it was moved to July 11 before it was postponed to September 21, 2022.

“Mr. Abbas is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21,” Mrozek said.

It would be recalled that Hushpuppi is facing criminal charges in the United States for conspiracy to launder money obtained from business email compromise frauds and other scams.

The scams include schemes that defrauded a US law firm of about $40 million.

He was alleged to have illegally transferred $14.7 million from a foreign financial institution and targeted to steal $124 million from an English football club.

Hushpuppi was later arrested by the Dubai Police in June 2020 before he was extradited to the United States.
