PDP rally

One person has been killed at the campaign rally of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, Dr Mustapha Lamido.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, who disclosed this via a statement on Saturday, said the victim was killed by PDP supporters.

Shiisu said the 37-year-old deceased, who was identified as Abdullahi Isyaku, was attacked when fighting erupted between PDP and APC supporters in Maigatari Local Government Area of the state.

“On Friday, at about 6:20 p.m., while the PDP gubernatorial candidate was conducting campaign rally in Maigatari LGA, as they arrived at APC Secretariat, clash erupted between the supporters of the parties.

“And the Santuraki (Mustapha Sule Lamido) vanguard attacked one Abdullahi Isyaku aged 37 and a resident of Gangare quarters in Maigatari town,” the police spokesperson disclosed.

Shiisu said five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

He noted that the deceased, who was earlier rushed to Gumel General Hospital, died while receiving treatment.

The police spokesman added that an investigation has commenced at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
