The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted no fewer than 637,600 opioid pills in Taraba State, as part of a series of coordinated anti-drug operations across the country.
The opioids — including tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5 — were recovered on Thursday, February 26, 2026, when operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a Mercedes-Benz vehicle along the Bali–Suntai road en route to Baruwa in Gashaka LGA.
In a related operation in Lankaviri Yorro area of Taraba, officers arrested a suspect, Musa Usman, 27, and seized 126.022 kilograms of skunk.
At the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted a Togolese woman, Hadiza Musa, who concealed 5,000 tramadol pills in her luggage. In another Lagos operation, 1,040 kilograms of skunk were recovered from an uncompleted building in Akodo village, Eleko, Ibeju-Lekki.
Additional seizures included 499.2kg of skunk recovered in Dei-Dei, Abuja, and 7,000 capsules of tramadol intercepted along the Bama–Konduga road in Borno State. Arrests were also made in Kano, Katsina, and Osun States in connection with codeine syrup and cannabis trafficking.
Beyond enforcement, the agency said its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign continued nationwide, reaching schools in Niger, Oyo, Jigawa, Cross River, and Kano States.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), praised officers across various commands for maintaining momentum in drug supply reduction while strengthening public awareness initiatives aimed at reducing drug demand.
