Bandits behind the abduction of worshippers from the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, have given a 48-hour deadline for the payment of a ₦200 million ransom.
The gang had earlier demanded ₦500 million before reducing the amount, warning families that failure to comply would lead to severe “consequences.”
A total of 14 people were kidnapped during the attack on November 30, including the church’s presiding pastor, widely known as Orlando, and six children from his household.
Among the victims are a three-week-old baby and a four-month-old infant.
More than a week after the incident, families and residents say the Kogi State Government has yet to issue a public statement or provide clear information on ongoing rescue efforts.
A video circulating on social media shows relatives of the pastor begging Governor Usman Ododo to intervene urgently.
In the clip, four distressed women—among them the pastor’s wife—kneel as they plead for government support, expressing fear for the wellbeing of the captives as the bandits’ deadline approaches.
“The amount the kidnappers are demanding is beyond our means. Please come to our rescue,” the elderly woman appeals.
Community members are also calling for swift action, warning that the situation is becoming increasingly desperate as the ultimatum draws near.
