A 15-year-old girl identified as Amarachi has been rescued after allegedly being locked inside a toilet for months by her employers in Abuloma, Rivers State.
Amarachi, who is from Ebonyi State, was reportedly working as a domestic help for a couple identified as Eze Simeon and his wife.
According to reports, the girl was allegedly confined to the toilet as punishment for an undisclosed offence. She was also reportedly neglected and fed only once daily with leftover food.
The girl was rescued on Monday, September 15, after raising an alarm while the couple was away from home.
Neighbours reportedly heard her cries and contacted the police division in Abuloma. Officers subsequently arrived at the residence and rescued her.
Confirming the incident, the Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Agabe Blessing, said investigations were ongoing.
She added that the couple had been taken into police custody, while Amarachi’s family had arrived in Rivers State to take her home.
