167 traffic offenders prosecuted in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has prosecuted 167 motorists and other road users for various traffic offences during a four-day enforcement operation across the state capital.

The exercise, conducted under Operation Velvet, began on Monday, August 24, and was aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations and enhancing safety within Gombe metropolis.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the police, the offenders were arraigned before three mobile courts set up at Rainbow Roundabout, Gombe Emir’s Palace and Liji Roundabout to ensure swift handling of cases arising from the enforcement exercise.

The operation, which ended on August 27, was supervised by the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Chuso.

Chuso said the command would continue to enforce traffic regulations while maintaining public order and protecting road users.

He urged motorists, tricycle and motorcycle operators to obey traffic laws and ensure their vehicles had the necessary documents.

The Commissioner warned that the enforcement would continue and called on members of the public to cooperate with security personnel during the exercise.

The command also urged residents to report suspicious and unlawful activities through appropriate channels.
