17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, read the defection notices during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
This comes barely two days after former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso dumped the ADC for the NDC.
The lawmakers include Yusuf Datti (Datti Yusuf Umar) — Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency, Kano State; Uchenna Okonkwo (Harris Uchenna Okonkwo) — Idemili North/Idemili South Federal Constituency, Anambra State; Adamu Wakili (Sani Adamu Wakili) — Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency, Kano State; Thaddeus Attah — Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos State; George Ozodinobi (George Ibezimako Ozodinobi) — Njikoka/Dunukofia/Anaocha Federal Constituency, Anambra State; and Lilian Orogbu (Prof. Lilian Obiageli Orogbu) — Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency, Anambra State.
Obi, Kwankwaso exit painful but not devastating — ADC
Others are Oluwaseyi Sowunmi (Seyi Sowunmi) — Ojo Federal Constituency, Lagos State; Peter Aniekwe (Peter Udeogalanya Aniekwe) — Anambra East/Anambra West Federal Constituency, Anambra State; Mukhtar Zakari (Muktar Umar Zakari) — Tarauni Federal Constituency, Kano State; George Oluwande (George Adegeye Olawande) — Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Lagos State; Munachim Umezuruike (Manuchim Umezuruike) — Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency, Rivers State; Emeka Idu (Emeka Idu Godwin Obiajulu) — Onitsha North/Onitsha South Federal Constituency, Anambra State; Jesse Onuakalusi (Jesse Okey-Joe Onuakalusi) — Oshodi-Isolo I Federal Constituency, Lagos State; and Ifeanyi Uzokwe (Peter Ifeanyi Uzokwe) — Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Anambra State.
Afam Ogene (Afam Victor Ogene) — Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra State; Abdulhakeem Ado (Abdulhakeem Kamilu Ado) — Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency, Kano State; and Leke Abejide — Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopa-Muro Federal Constituency, Kogi State also dumped the ADC.
