An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 3:28 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, after the Fire Service received a distress call from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into the pond.
The statement said firefighters from the Danbatta Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene following the distress call.
“Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel from the Danbatta fire station immediately mobilised to the scene,” it said.
The rescue team recovered Abdullahi from the pond unconscious and transported him from the scene. He was subsequently confirmed dead.
His remains were handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
The Fire Service sympathised with the deceased’s family and urged residents to exercise caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the rainy season.
