The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two women for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse in Kano.
The command’s spokesperson, Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Lawan said the suspects ― Maryam Ali, 19, and 20-year-old Hauwa Musa ― were apprehended during routine security checks while attempting to gain access to the custodial centre on Sunday.
Lawan stated that the women were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs, which preliminary investigations revealed were meant to be supplied to inmates within the facility.

He noted that the act constituted a serious violation of the NCoS regulations and a criminal offence under the relevant laws of Nigeria.
He stated that the suspects, both residents of Kano State, had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, remains committed to maintaining strict security, discipline and zero-tolerance for all forms of illegal activities within and around custodial centres,” Lawan added.
Lawan urged members of the public to adhere strictly with the rules and regulations governing visits to correctional facilities, warning that any breach would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
