20-year-old man kills father in Jigawa

A tragic incident occurred in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, allegedly murdered his biological father, Salisu Abubakar.

The attack reportedly took place on the night of Monday, May 5, 2025, in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District.

According to a local resident, the family woke up to find the 52-year-old victim covered in blood with multiple machete wounds across his body.

He was rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Birnin Kudu, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that Muhammad attacked his father with a machete, inflicting severe injuries to the neck, chest, and shoulder.

Police officers from the Sara Division responded swiftly to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the weapon used in the attack.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
