2023 elections: North/West synergy’ll boost Nigeria’s unity ― Group

A pan-Yoruba political group, Yoruba Radical Assembly (YRA), has hailed the synergy between the North and the South-West that produced Bola Tinubu as the President-elect to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari,

The YRA stated that the North/West synergy would cement the unity of the country properly.

The group, in a statement issued on Thursday by its convener, Comrade Omolola Oriade, lamented that since independence in 1960, some enemies of a truly united country have been plotting against the possibility of the synergy thus making mutual suspicion between the two regions strive and militate against a workable solution to the mirage of problems confronting the nation.

It, however, said all attempts to portray the two regions as arch-enemies have come to a permanent end.

The YRA said the just concluded presidential election, which threw up a westerner as the next president through the majority votes from the North and the West, has indicated the end to the evil political machination that has been putting unnecessary wedge between the two regions that mean well for the country.

“With the just concluded presidential election, Nigeria will continue to breathe fresh air of genuine political stability, economic growth, and social camaraderie. We, therefore, wish to urge that the North/West alliance that has been working well for the country should blossom further for the best interest of the generality of the good people of Nigeria,” it stated.

The group further hailed the courage and patriotism of the people of the North, who it said eschewed bitterness, and shunned tribalism and bigotry for the unity of the country by casting their votes for the unity of the country.

“If such display of loyalty to the country and patriotism devoid of sentiment continues, Nigeria, no doubt, is on her way to an enviable greatness,” the group added.

The group, therefore, congratulated Tinubu just as it urged him to extend the olive branch to all other contestants, saying he has become the leader of all Nigerians irrespective of their political leaning, social status, and religious belief.

The YRA also urged Nigerians to rally round Tinubu by supporting him to succeed in office, noting that his success would rub off on all the citizenry irrespective of where anybody belongs.
