Okupe, who is the Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, announced his withdrawal as the party’s vice-presidential candidate via a tweet on his Twitter handle on Thursday.

The Star had reported that Okupe was named as the party’s vice-presidential candidate to beat the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It would be recalled that INEC set June 17, 2022, as the deadline for political parties in the country to submit the list of their candidates and running mates (presidential and governorship).

Okupe had said he was standing in as Obi’s running mate, noting that discussions were ongoing to choose a substantive vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
