2023 polls: Group expresses confidence in Tinubu’s victory

A group, National Independent Campaign Organization for Tinubu (NICOT), has expressed confidence that the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, will win the 2023 presidential election.

The NICOT said this at a press conference addressed by its spokesperson, Comrade Adekunle Adeosun, on behalf of the group’s campaigner, Comrade Razaq Olokoba, in Lagos on Saturday.

Adeosun said the group “is out to complement their campaign structure with our own existing structure across the country to ensure Nigerians have the best leaders capable of succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari with a view to moving the country forward from where Buhari would stop on May, 29 this year.”

He added: “The belief in the duo’s ability and capability to win the February 25 presidential poll remains intact and not shaking based on a couple of factors relating to their antecedence, pedigree and performance while in office, positing that, experience has shown that, the duo of Tinubu and Shettima have all what it takes to move the country further towards the Eldorado after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, this year.

“Going by their experiences in their previously held offices, their pedigrees and political antecedence had put them at the vantage position to hit the ground running from the first day of their assumption of office, reminding that, they have both legislative and executive experiences as former state governors as well as senators.”

The NICOT spokesperson stated that the experiences of Tinubu and his running mate were important for good governance and stable democratic processes in any political sphere across the world.

Adeosun further recalled that while Tinubu was a two-term former governor of Lagos State after being a senator, Shettima was also a two-term governor of Borno State and also a senator.

“Against this background, we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that they would bring their executive and legislative experiences to bear in office to bring democracy dividends to the people of the country the way they did at the lower level for the benefit of the generality of the citizenry,” he added.

The group spokesman, however, stated that “mere supporting without taking concrete steps towards the realisation of their ambition would amount to naught”, adding that “our teeming members across the country and overseas have intensified efforts at sensitising the eligible voters about the importance of the need to obtain Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
