The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Kingsley Ogundu Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The result was announced on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti.
Kwamoti made the declaration at the APC Secretariat after receiving results from collation officers across the 23 local government areas of the state.
He said Chinda emerged as the sole aspirant in the exercise and polled a total of 268,497 votes.
“I, Kwamoti Bitrus, chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this 21st day of May, 2026,” he said.
He added that Chinda satisfied all requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and was therefore returned as the party’s governorship candidate for Rivers State.
“The name of the aspirant, who is the sole aspirant, is Chinda Ogundu Kingsley. He scored the total number of votes, 268,497,” he said.
The Rivers APC primary had drawn attention amid ongoing political tensions in the state and the influence of key party stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
There had also been speculation over the political direction of Governor Siminalayi Fubara following reports of his withdrawal from the APC governorship contest.
