Factional National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Agbo Major, has dismissed Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s recent declaration that the party is open to alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, made the announcement at a meeting of his Kwankwasiyya group in Abuja on Thursday.
But in a statement on Friday, Major insisted that Kwankwaso lacked the authority to commit the party to any alliance.
He described the National Executive Council meeting convened by the Kwankwasiyya faction as “null and void,” stressing that its resolutions cannot override existing party decisions or court judgments on the NNPP’s leadership crisis.
“Beyond the betrayal of trust, it is regrettable that Kwankwaso continues to use the NNPP’s name for negotiations and public comments that could destabilize the country,” Major said, citing Kwankwaso’s criticism of the Federal Government over alleged northern neglect as “a clear example.”
The factional chairman revealed that the party is awaiting INEC’s response to its request for recognition of the leadership structure produced through a court-ordered convention.
He also warned political actors that any alliance sealed with Kwankwaso under the NNPP banner would be “at their own risk.”
According to him, the NNPP remains open to genuine collaborations with other parties but only through transparent processes and not “personal vendettas.” He assured that all aspirants would be given equal opportunities through primaries, while expressing hope that INEC would recognize what he described as the party’s legitimate leadership.
