2027: NNPP launches nationwide hunt for credible politicians

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has instructed its state executives across the country to commence immediate mobilisation of credible and competent politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also directed all state chapters to launch fresh membership drives, register new members and update existing records.

This directive was issued in a statement released on Friday by the party’s founder and Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, in Lagos.

Aniebonam stressed that state and local government executives must admit only politicians with verifiable records, integrity and honour into the party.

“Our time was seriously consumed by the leadership tussle between the NNPP and the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso–led Kwankwasiyya Movement,” he said. “The attempt to hijack the NNPP led to litigations that affected our ability to participate fully in past elections.”

With most of the internal disputes now resolved, Aniebonam urged members to refocus on the party’s core mission of promoting good governance anchored on the fear of God.

He added that existing members unwilling to uphold the NNPP’s values are free to leave for other political parties.

“We hold no grudge against anyone. We appreciate our former members and pray they find favour wherever they have gone. As mortals guided by God’s wisdom, we must forgive them despite the betrayals that led to their expulsion,” he said.

Aniebonam also reiterated that he bears no personal resentment toward Kwankwaso or Elder Buba Galadima. However, he cautioned the Kwankwasiyya Movement against negotiating in the NNPP’s name or using the wrong logo.

“The NNPP logo is a basket of fruits with green and white colours—not a red book, which belongs to the Kwankwasiyya Movement,” he clarified. “INEC cannot register two political parties with the same name but different logos.”

He advised Kwankwaso and his group to either join any existing political party of their choice or reactivate their deregistered platform, the Nigeria Alliance Party (NAP).

Aniebonam noted that he founded the NNPP in 2001, while Kwankwaso joined in 2022 under the Kwankwasiyya structure and was offered the presidential ticket for the 2023 election.

He said the Memorandum of Understanding entered with the Kwankwasiyya Movement was solely for the 2023 polls and expired thereafter.
