2027: Obi ticket unbeatable in credibility, capacity — Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described his ticket with Peter Obi as unmatched in credibility, capacity and commitment to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso made the claim on Sunday during an appearance on the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series in Abuja.

The former Kano State governor said the partnership was designed to create a broad political coalition capable of bridging Nigeria’s regional and religious divides.

He argued that Obi’s political base in the South, combined with his influence in the North, gives the ticket a strong national appeal capable of challenging other contenders.

“Nobody, no ticket, can beat our own in terms of credibility, capacity and, of course, love for the country,” Kwankwaso said.

He also claimed that the duo had a stronger understanding of the challenges facing poor Nigerians.

“Even in terms of empathy for the poor who are suffering across the country today, no other contender can match us,” he added.

Kwankwaso said his experience during the 2023 presidential election gave him a better understanding of Obi and strengthened his belief that both politicians could work together effectively.

He said Nigeria needed a political shift, citing insecurity, poverty, deteriorating infrastructure and the difficulties confronting farmers as major concerns.

The former governor also faulted the impact of fuel subsidy removal, arguing that the policy had yet to translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians.

He added that farmers were struggling amid the influx of cheaper imported food products.

According to Kwankwaso, the alliance between the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the NDC and Obi’s supporters was aimed at achieving a democratic transition similar to the change witnessed in 2015.

He said the partnership was based on fairness, justice and equity, with both leaders committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Kwankwaso also explained his acceptance of the vice-presidential position, saying he viewed it primarily as an opportunity to serve the country rather than merely occupy the number two position.
