A group under the aegis of the Plateau North Coalition has endorsed Governor Caleb Mutfwang for a second term in 2027, rejecting a proposed one-term arrangement by Kefas Ropshik of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The coalition said its position was aimed at preserving the state’s zoning arrangement and ensuring continuity in governance.
In a statement issued in Jos and signed by Gyang Dalyop Pam and Ajik Agwom, the group argued that Ropshik could not be trusted with political office because he had not previously held an elective position.
The coalition also faulted what it described as an attempt to alter the state’s zoning arrangement, insisting that Plateau North should support Mutfwang’s re-election before power returns to the zone.
It commended Mutfwang for what it described as his courage, resilience and equitable distribution of infrastructure across the state.
According to the group, presenting another candidate from Plateau Central at this stage would amount to reversing the progress recorded under the current administration.
“The people of Plateau North cannot trust any politician from Plateau Central at the moment apart from Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who has shown leadership qualities and demonstrated that Plateau can be governed on the basis of equity, fairness and justice,” it said.
The coalition maintained that Plateau could not afford actions that would undermine the gains of the Mutfwang administration.
“We cannot take any action at this moment that will take Plateau State backwards. Plateau North is willing to support Governor Mutfwang to complete his second tenure and hand over to Plateau North,” the group said.
It urged residents of Plateau North and the state to support Mutfwang’s second-term bid, arguing that continuity would protect the existing zoning arrangement and promote stability in governance.
