2027: Tinubu, Atiku, Obi lead as INEC unveils final list of presidential candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the 2027 presidential election, officially confirming 18 presidential tickets that will contest Nigeria’s highest office.

The list includes President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is seeking a second term with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will contest on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi as his vice-presidential candidate, while former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will represent the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Also cleared for the election are Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Other candidates are Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje (AA), Aliyu Abbas-Bin (ADP), Kabiru Yusuf (APP), Oluseyi Makinde (APM), Sunday Adenuga (BP), Moses Olusoji Adebisi (DLA), Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori (NDP), Nkem Esther Okereke (NRM), Peter Ada Agada (YPP), and Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu (ZLP).

The publication of the final list marks a major milestone in the build-up to the 2027 general election, with the approved candidates expected to intensify nationwide campaigns in line with the electoral timetable.

The election is expected to be closely watched, with the APC, ADC, and NDC fielding some of the country’s most prominent political figures in what is shaping up to be one of Nigeria’s most competitive presidential races.
