Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is his major political focus. Wike made the declaration on Monday while addressing town hall meetings with the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. The former Rivers State governor urged residents to support Tinubu, citing the President’s appointments of Rivers indigenes and developmental projects in the state as reasons for backing his re-election. “Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said. He urged Rivers residents to put aside political sentiments and support the President in the 2027 election. “Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers State with dividends of democracy and with several appointments,” he said. Wike expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure more support in Rivers State in 2027 than he did in 2023. “I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it,” he said. The FCT minister also criticised opposition figures ahead of the election, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who are associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He questioned the party’s prospects in Rivers State, particularly its ability to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in the state. Wike also described former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other opposition politicians as “unelectable.” He further urged his supporters and political allies in Rivers to avoid internal disagreements and communal disputes that could distract them from their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections. “What will be, will be. You don’t need to kill yourself. Anything that God said would be, it would be,” Wike said.
