2027: Why I joined Rivers governorship race — Fubara’s brother

The younger brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Blessing Fubara, has joined the 2027 governorship race in the state on the platform of Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The governor’s younger, in a statement issued on Thursday, pledged to restore the state’s economic prosperity and political stability if elected.

Fubara said he was offering himself as a ready, competent, and energetic candidate to “restore the soul of Rivers.”

He said the need to reverse impoverishment of the people of Rivers State, loss of investment, dignity, and opportunities in the state spurred him into joining the race.

“Today, we see a Rivers that is distressed, shortchanged and almost seeming like a conquered state, but we are not a conquered people,” he stated.

Fubara appealed to supporters in all 23 local government areas to turn out en masse at polling units to “reclaim the soul of Rivers.”

Fubara pledged to serve a single four-year term to complete the eight-year tenure of Rivers South-East Senatorial District under the state’s political rotation arrangement.

According to him, altering the rotation of leadership and governance in the oil-rich state will set a very wrong and dangerous precedent
