2027: Wike links FCT projects to Tinubu’s electoral prospects

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has linked the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects across the FCT to the political support he expects President Bola Tinubu’s administration to receive in the 2027 general elections.

Wike spoke on Thursday while inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects, arguing that the impact of government projects in satellite communities would be a major factor when residents decide how to vote.

According to the minister, the Tinubu administration’s focus on roads and other infrastructure beyond Abuja’s city centre has demonstrated what he described as the benefits of good governance.

“If good governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” Wike said.

He added that the administration was not merely making promises but was implementing projects that residents could see and verify.

“The Tinubu administration has come and it’s not only listening to you, it’s not only caring for you, it’s solving your problems. Why will they want to change their mind?” he said.

Wike also dismissed the prospect of opposition parties persuading voters with what he described as unsubstantiated claims, saying the administration would campaign on its record of infrastructure delivery.

“This is the campaign. The people who will come, what will they come with? They will tell them stories. But we have not come with stories, we have come with facts, verifiable facts,” he said.

The minister said the administration’s development programme had extended to satellite towns and communities that, according to him, had received limited infrastructure attention in the past.

He cited the Apo-Karshi road and the Bwari-Kubwa road among the projects being executed by the FCT Administration.

Wike said the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road was on course for completion in November, while the dualisation of the Bwari-Kubwa road was expected to be completed in December.

He said construction activity on the Bwari-Kubwa project would intensify from the first week of October as the heavy rainy season subsides.

The minister has previously said the Tinubu administration had completed 221 kilometres out of 317 kilometres of roads awarded across FCT satellite towns since 2023.

Wike has also publicly stated that mobilising support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election is his political priority, while maintaining that the PDP remains free to field candidates in other elections.
