2027: Youths gift Lawan N188m to contest Yobe governorship election

The Coalition of Yobe-East Progressive Youths has raised N188 million to support the 2027 governorship aspiration of former Senate President Ahmed Lawan.

The coalition’s leader, Dr Yerima Goni, made this known at the fundraising in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, on Monday, April 6, 2026.

Goni said the initiative was aimed at encouraging civic engagement and inclusive participation among youths and other stakeholders.

The coalition’s leader disclosed that the funds were realised through pledges, bank transfers, and cash donations.

He said the group remained committed to promoting good governance and youth involvement in leadership processes.

Speaker of Kebbi assembly, Ankwai, dies

The event attracted participants, mostly youths, community leaders, supporters, and stakeholders across Yobe State.

Lawan, while appreciating the initiative, also described the gesture as a demonstration of responsible citizenship.

The former Senate President added that the donations were the reflection of the grassroots’ passionate participation in political leadership.

Lawan, who hasn’t made a formal declaration to join the governorship race, however, expressed his willingness to respond to the call to serve the people of Yobe State.
