At just 23, Prince Daniel Afamefune Chukwujindu has assumed the traditional throne of Ekwuoma Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Chukwujindu, an undergraduate studying Microbiology at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, was formally installed as the 11th Ajeh of the kingdom on Friday.
He succeeds his father, the late King Chinedu Samuel Chukwujindu, Ezeagu-Ukpo I, who died on June 2, 2026, with his enthronement coming after the completion of the late monarch’s burial rites.
The new monarch, now known as Ezeagu-Ukpo II, ascended the throne in accordance with Ekwuoma’s traditional succession system, which reserves the kingship for the first son of a reigning monarch.
Speaking after his installation, Chukwujindu thanked the people of the kingdom for entrusting him with the traditional institution and pledged to preserve its customs and traditions.
“I appreciate the people of Ekwuoma for their confidence and support. I pledge to uphold the customs and traditions of our kingdom and promote peace, unity and development,” he said.
The young king also urged the people of Ekwuoma to rally around the traditional institution and play active roles in advancing the community.
“I call on all sons and daughters of Ekwuoma to unite behind the traditional institution. We must work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous community,” he said.
He further advocated closer collaboration between the traditional institution, government and residents to tackle the challenges confronting the kingdom.
“The traditional institution, government and our people must cooperate to address the challenges facing Ekwuoma and advance the development of our kingdom,” the monarch said.
