24 dead, scores missing in Jigawa boat mishap

The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed 24 persons dead in a boat mishap that occurred in the state on Sunday, January 4, 2026.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Sunday.

Shiisu said 16 people were earlier reportedly dead, while 10 others were rescued, with 14 missing after the boat capsized in Adiyani village of Guri Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesperson added the number of persons who died in the incident later rose to 24.
