A total of 274 Nigerian Army officers have commenced the 2026 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination at Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State.
The five-day examination, which began on Sunday at the Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre, Jaji, is a prerequisite for officers seeking admission into the Senior Command and Staff Course.
The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Peter Malla, who is also the President of the Examination Board, urged the candidates to approach the exercise with discipline, confidence and integrity.
Malla said the examination was important to the officers’ career progression and would assess their professional knowledge, leadership ability and competence.
He said the exercise was being conducted in accordance with the Nigerian Army’s approved syllabus as part of efforts to strengthen professional military education and leadership development.
The commander expressed confidence in the candidates’ performance, saying he expected all 274 officers to pass the examination.
He also charged members of the Directing Staff to ensure fairness, transparency and professionalism in assessing the candidates.
Malla warned that examination malpractice would lead to disqualification and possible prosecution under relevant military regulations and the Armed Forces Act.
He said the Army would continue to recognise outstanding performance, adding that the first, second and third overall candidates would receive Certificates of Excellence, Letters of Commendation and cash rewards.
Earlier, the Commander, Infantry Corps, Maj.-Gen. Godwin Mutkut, welcomed the officers to Jaji and assured them of adequate arrangements for the successful conduct of the five-day examination.
Senior officers from Army Headquarters and various formations attended the commencement of the exercise.
