29-year-old lawyer among train attack’s fatalities

A 29-year-old lawyer, Farida Sule Mohammed, has been confirmed to be one of those killed in the terrorist attack on a train along the Abuja-Kaduna route on Monday.

The late legal practitioner was the daughter of the National Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mallam Sule Mohammed.

The death of Farida was disclosed on Twitter by her friend, Zahida Barau, who described the late 29-year-old lawyer as a good person with a good heart.

She wrote: “Innalillahi wa inna alaihi rajiun. “We lost Farida yesterday in the Kaduna-Abuja train attack. I believe she’s in a better place now. She was a very good person with a good heart.

“Halinki nagari ya biki Farida. Allah ka isar mana. The blood of the innocent will never go in vain. Please pray for my friend.”

Confirming Farida’s death, the PRP National Secretary, Babatunde Alli, said: “We have tragically and unfortunately lost Farida Sule Mohammed, a 29-year-old (almost 30 actually) daughter of our amiable National Organising Secretary, Mallam Sule Mohammed, in the banditry attack on the Kaduna-Abuja train yesterday.

“Our chairman, Mallam Falalu Bello OFR, and the father of this slain heroine are currently at the hospital to collect the corpse. This indeed is a sober moment for the entire PRP family.”

Farida, according to family sources, was, however, laid to rest at Yahaya Road Mosque in Kaduna on Tuesday according to Islamic rite.

The Star had reported that suspected terrorists, on Monday night, attacked a Kaduna-bound train, few kilometres to Kaduna metropolis.

The train departed Abuja 6 p.m. and was expected to arrive Kaduna 8 p.m.

But the train was attacked at about 7.45 p.m.
