3 die, many injured as bus with RCCG convention returnees crash

No fewer than three people were confirmed dead while 13 others were injured after a bus conveying the participants of the just-concluded 70th convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was involved in an accident on the Abeokuta–Kobape–Siun road in Ogun State.

It was gathered that the accident occurred at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday.

The incident was said to have occurred when a Mazda bus conveying the RCCG convention participants careened to a side of the road after it somersaulted following a burst tyre while in motion.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Endorsement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, noting that two males and a female died in the crash.

Akinbiyi said the remains of the dead were evacuated to the morgue of State Hospital Ijaiye, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while the injured were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
