3 killed in Osun cult clash

Three persons have been confirmed dead in a suspected cult clash in the Imo area of Osun State.

Confirming the incident via a statement issued on Tuesday, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the cult clash occurred between members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026.

“Following the incident, three persons, identified as Idowu, Yinka, and Eja, all yet to be properly identified were shot dead,” Ojelabi said.

He said upon the receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun State governorship election, Samuel Etaifo, directed the deployment of operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the area.

The police spokesman disclosed that four expended cartridges and two Android mobile phones were recovered from the scene, adding that preliminary investigations have commenced.

Ojelabi stated that police were also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons involved.
