31 killed as terrorists invade Kaduna community

At least 31 people have been killed after suspected terrorists attacked Kamaru Village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of Monday, according to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).

FIJ reported that the attackers invaded the community around midnight, shooting residents as they moved from house to house and setting several shops and a residential building ablaze.

A former councillor of Kamaru Ward and indigene of the community, Jacob Nera, told FIJ that the attack was the first of its kind in the village.

“The death toll is currently 31. They came around 12 a.m. They were going from house to house, shooting. They set some shops and a house on fire,” Nera said.

He added that residents were still searching for missing persons and could not immediately confirm whether anyone had been abducted during the attack.

According to Nera, the motive behind the assault remains unknown.

“For now, we don’t know if anyone was kidnapped. It is just the death toll for now. This is the first time ever that Kamaru is coming under this kind of attack,” he told FIJ.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Kaduna State Police Command or other security agencies on the attack.
