31 students bag first class at Ondo varsity

No fewer than 31 students of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State bagged first class in the institution’s 2024/2025 session.

The OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, disclosed this at a press conference in Okitipupa on Thursday to herald the institution’s third convocation ceremony scheduled for March 4, 2025.

The VC said out of a total of 995 students to receive their degree certificates, 31 graduated with First Class, 367 bagged Second Class Upper Division, 495 made Second Class Lower, while 102 graduated with Third Class.

Ologunorisa stated that with the sound and qualitative academic records of the institution, both students and graduates could compete favourably with their peers nationally and internationally.

The OAUSTECH VC stated that he met the university in comatose but had transformed it from a mere teaching to research institution and without a record of any strike.

Ologunorisa, who assumed duty on February 23, 2022, said he had increased the university’s faculties met on ground from three to seven with several courses.

“There are plans to commence School of Maritime, Transport and Logistics, School of Pharmacy, School of Basic Medical Sciences and programmes like Anatomy, Physiology, and Physioteraphy by September,” he added.

Ologunorisa thanked Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for restoring electricity to Ondo South, which he said had enabled students and researchers to carry out quality researches.

He also appealed to the Ondo State Government for the speedy implementation of budgetary provisions for OAUSTECH and other institutions in the state.

The VC further solicited support from the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).

Ologunorisa appealed to the two commissions to complete abandoned hostel projects in OAUSTECH to enhance students’ accommodation.
