35-year-old PDP candidate ends Yobe Speaker’s sixth term bid

The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed Mirwa Lawan, has lost his seat to a 35-year-old candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nguru II Constituency, Lawan Musa.

The Returning Officer of the election, Dr Habib Muhammad, while announcing the results on Sunday, said Musa, scored 6,648 votes to defeat Lawan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who garnered 6,466 votes.

Muhammad said other candidates of NNPP and APM scored 3,023 and 14 votes, respectively.

The Yobe’s Speaker has been in the House since 2003 when he was elected on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
