No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead in a stampede during the distribution of annual Ramadan alms at Kofar-Guga in Katsina State.
The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Abubakar disclosed that many people were also injured in the stampede, adding that the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 26.
Abubakar said the police, upon the receipt of the report, rushed the victims to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

“Unfortunately, four of the injured later succumbed to their injuries,” he stated.
He quoted the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, as directing further investigation and necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
Shehu, however, urged individuals who wish to distribute alms to the public to notify the command for adequate security coverage, so as to ensure safety of lives and property and orderliness during such events to prevent similar incidents in the future.
