A 40-year-old man, Azeez Tajudeen, has been confirmed dead after an attack on supporters of the Accord Party governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Ayanlade said the incident occurred around the Molete area of Ibadan during a procession organised to welcome Hamzat back home from the United Kingdom.
Ayanlade said a complainant reported to police that the Accord party supporters were attacked by suspected hoodlums shortly after leaving Molete, while proceeding toward Agidigbo office on Iwo Road.
He stated: “During the attack, one Azeez Tajudeen, aged 40, a native of Oke Amu in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, sustained a severe injury to his right eye.
“He was immediately rushed for medical attention and subsequently taken to State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where he was examined and confirmed dead.
“His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.”

The police spokesperson said the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, had directed that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for investigation.
Ayanlade urged political aspirants, party leaders, and event organisers to formally notify police at least 48 hours before any planned gathering takes place.
Ayanlade said this would enable adequate security arrangements, prevent breaches of public peace, and safeguard participants and other members of the public.
