A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State has remanded a 53-year-old teacher, Ayodeji Onoviran, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling one of his students.
The Chief Magistrate, L. A. Owolabi, ordered the remand of the teacher on Friday, October 10, 2025.
The defendant is being tried for rape.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offence was committed at a secondary school in Ijeshatedo, Lagos State, in August 2024.
Ademigbuji said the student, a 13-year-old girl, was attending a summer lesson organised by the defendant when he defiled her.

The prosecutor stated that the victim’s aunty saw the changes in her behaviour and upon an enquiry, she opened up on how the teacher raped her.
The offence, according to him, contravene Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Owolabi, who refused to take Onoviran’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The Chief Magistrate adjourned the case until November 20, 2025, for the Director of Public prosecution’s(DPP) advice.
