62 passengers in panic mode as plane skids off PH runway

Sixty-seven people including five flight crew and 62 passengers survived a near crash on Tuesday when a ValueJet CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft skidded off the runway at Port-Harcourt International Airport.

The incident sent passengers into panic and confusion when the aircraft overshot the runway upon landing at 15:32 hours.

The aircraft with registration 5N-BXR however safely landed.

Managing Director of ValueJet, Capt. Dapo Majekodunmi, explained that the slip was caused by algae on the taxiway, stopping the aircraft from maintaining the centreline, as clarified by Captain Stanley Balami.
