First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has announced that more than N20.45 billion has been raised to complete the National Library in Abuja.
The First Lady disclosed that the funds were generated through her Oluremi @65 Education Fund, a legacy birthday project.
Speaking at a luncheon with State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday to mark her 65th birthday, Tinubu said she deliberately chose the library project as her birthday gift to the nation instead of cakes, gifts, or newspaper adverts.
She said: “N20,456,188,924.93 has been raised.

“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong in doing well?”
The First Lady explained that her decision was shaped by her 12 years on the Senate Committee on Education and her modest upbringing.
“From a humble background, the library played a role in my life. That’s why I thought this is a worthy cause,” she said, pledging to sustain her commitment to education and projects that will benefit future generations.
Her announcement follows remarks by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who commended her recognition of education’s importance but faulted the nation for relying on birthday donations to complete a key national institution.
