A 66-year-old man, Sikirulleh Olaniyi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly defrauding two people of N5.3 million under false pretence.
Olaniyi, whose address was not disclosed, is facing two counts of fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
Prosecutor ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 13 in the Sango-Ota area. He alleged that Olaniyi collected N5.3 million from the complainants, Saka Rasaq and Saliu Ramat, claiming it was for the procurement of Saudi Arabia visas, but failed to deliver.
Adaraloye said the offences contravened Sections 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted him bail in the sum of N400,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until September 3 for trial.
