The Kaduna State Government has organised special prayers for peace, stability and economic prosperity in Nigeria as part of activities marking the country’s 66th Independence anniversary.
The prayers were held at the Sultan Bello Mosque after the Juma’at prayer and led by the Deputy Chief Imam, Malam Abdullahi Aliyu.
The Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, senior government officials and Muslim faithful attended the session.
During the prayers, the cleric asked Allah to grant President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani wisdom and guidance in administering the country and the state respectively.
Aliyu also urged political leaders and citizens to uphold trust, honesty and integrity, stressing that political offices and worldly power are temporary.
He said leaders and citizens would be accountable for how they managed the responsibilities entrusted to them.
“God tests us with trust, our wealth, our families, and the positions He has given us, whether big or small, to see how we will manage them—whether or not we will act with honesty, truthfulness and fairness,” he said.
The Imam described honesty as a divine obligation that should guide both governance and commercial activities.
He urged Nigerians to examine whether their actions in public office and business reflected trust and truthfulness, warning of the consequences of betraying entrusted responsibilities.
“No matter how long a person lives, he will leave everything behind, and only his good deeds will accompany him to the grave,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, said other activities had been scheduled as part of the state’s countdown to the Independence anniversary.
He said an inter-denominational church service would be held on Sunday at Living Faith Church, Barnawa, with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, James Kanyip, representing Governor Sani.
Maiyaki said the activities would culminate in an official Independence Day parade at Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, on October 1.
The parade will be presided over by Governor Sani as the state joins other parts of the country to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
