7 dead, 2 injured in Ogun road crash

Seven persons have been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries in a multiple road accident at Kara, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Odunsi said the crash occurred at about 12:03 a.m. on Monday and involved three vehicles – a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter.

Odunsi disclosed that nine males were involved in the accident, saying: “Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.”

He attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed, adding that further investigations have commenced.

He noted that operatives of the FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command received a distress call at about 12:04 a.m. and arrived at 12:09 a.m.

Odunsi said the remains of the deceased had been evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), while the injured were taken to a nearby health facility for treatment.

The FRSC spokesperson added that the affected vehicles had been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo.
