7 family members die after breakfast meal in Sokoto

Seven members of a family have been confirmed dead after eating a breakfast meal in Kaura village, Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

It was gathered that the family members, except the father, died after taking the breakfast meal.

The man’s two wives and five children were said to have died in the early hours of Tuesday after eating a local meal, couscous, popularly known as Dambu.

A neighbour of the deceased, Umaru Kaura, said one of the man’s wives prepared the meal on Monday night and served it as dinner.

“The leftover was again mixed with an exposed uncooked couscous and prepared by one of the late wives on that fateful morning and was served hence led to their death,” Kaura added.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Yabo LGA, Halliru Kilgore, urged the residents to always exhibit good habit of foodstuff storage and preservation.

He said the corpses would undergo an autopsy to ascertain the cause of their death before burial.
