74-year-old man sent to prison for raping 8-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in the Kafanchan area of Kaduna State has remanded a 74-year-old man, Samson Goje, in a correctional centre for defiling an eight-year-old girl in the state.

Goje was charged by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with rape, contrary to Section 259 of Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The NSCDC prosecutor, Marcus Audu, told the court on Wednesday, January 15, that the complainant’s father, Yusuf Pama, reported the matter at the corps’ office in Kafanchan on January 3, 2025.

Audu said the 74-year-old man lured the complainant’s eight-year-old daughter into an uncompleted building and had carnal knowledge of her.

He said the defendant was caught in the act by the complainant who rushed the victim to Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kafanchan.

The presiding judge, Samson Kwasu, did not take the plea of the defendant for lack of jurisdiction to enter the matter.

Kwasu directed the prosecutor to forward copies of the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till January 29 for further mention.
