The Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N) says it has begun preliminary investigation into the accident involving Overland aircraft on its approach at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, AIB-N, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday.
The Star had reported that an Overland Airways aircraft’s engines caught fire before it landed at the international runway (R18R) of Lagos airport.
It was learnt that the airplane made an emergency landing at the airport while the 33 passengers onboard the flight were safely disembarked at the International Wing.

The incident was confirmed via a statement issued by the airline, noting that no passenger was injured.
However, Oketunbi said AIB had sent its investigators to conduct preliminary investigation into the occurrence.
“The incident involved Overland Airways aircraft ATR42, Registration Marks 5N-BRQ on flight OLA1188 from Ilorin to Lagos.
“Runway 18R, Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 18:40 on June 15, 2022,” he stated.
