The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in the early hours of Tuesday, commenced its protest in solidarity with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university-based unions.
Scores of NLC members and other unions converged at Ikeja Under Bridge in Lagos State to commence the protest on Tuesday.

There was also a heavy presence of security operatives at the venue of the protest to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

ASUU and other trade unions in the education sector have been on strike for more than five months over alleged failure of the Federal Government to keep to the agreement entered with the unions.

The demands of the striking lecturers include funding of universities, salaries, and earned allowances of lecturers.
