The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ife-Ife, Osun State, says it has handed over suspects accused of the murder of a final-year student, Okoli Ahize, who was beaten to death for allegedly stealing a phone.
The OAU spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, made this known in Ile-Ife on Wednesday, April 12.
Olarewaju said the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Simeon Bamire, and the entire community were saddened by the murder of the student.

“Nobody knows that students can go to that level of indiscipline to cost the life of their mate,” he said.
The OAU spokesman stressed that the suspects should have adhered to the constitutional provisions and the university’s regulations rather than taking the law into their hands.
Olarewaju said the university had set up a committee to unravel the circumstances leading to the gruesome murder of the student.
Ahize, a Part 5 student of the Department of Civil Engineering, was beaten to death at the Awolowo Hall of Residence of the institution on Monday, April 10.
