Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the local government election slated for October 5, 2024, will produce a new political structure that is people-oriented in the state.
Fubara said this during a meeting with the members of ‘The Simplicity Movement’ at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Tuesday, October 1.
The group was led by a candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Rivers State, Sobomabo Jackrich.
Responding to the level of public support demonstrated by the group, the governor promised to continue to defend the integrity of the state in the face of ongoing political challenges.

Fubara said: “We must defend the dignity of our state, we must ensure that the commonwealth of this state belongs to everyone.
“This is the reason for our slogan ‘Rivers First’.
“We believe that if we put the interest of the state above personal gains, we would have addressed the challenges associated with crime, hunger, and unemployment.”
He urged the electorate to freely participate in the local government election, adding that the election when concluded would help his administration chart the second phase of its struggle.
