Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, made this known in a statement issued by his media office on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The office described reports of Atiku’s defection as baseless and illogical, saying it has no factual basis.
The office added that Atiku remains a loyal and active member of the PDP.
“We have noticed some platforms spreading unverified claims about Abubakar leaving the PDP,” it said.
The former Vice President has consistently called for a coalition of opposition parties for the 2027 general election.

Atiku’s aim for the coalition is to challenge the APC and offer Nigerians a new political direction in 2027.
The office stated: “Abubakar is advocating for a broad coalition, including the PDP.
“The allegation of Abubakar leaving the PDP is false and goes against his ongoing efforts for opposition unity.”
The Atiku Media office stressed that the claims were intended to mislead Nigerians regarding the coalition’s significance in rescuing Nigeria from APC rule.
