Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 26 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully thwarted a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on their Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Izge, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attempted infiltration occurred in the early hours of May 7, 2025, at about 12:35 a.m., but was quickly repelled by troops from E Company, 114 Battalion (Main), thanks to their vigilance and superior firepower.
Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident on Wednesday via his X handle.
He reported that following the foiled attack, troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), launched a clearance operation in the area.
During the operation, five terrorists were confirmed killed.
Troops also recovered a motorcycle, ten bicycles, a PKT machine gun, and an ammunition belt along the insurgents’ withdrawal route.
The swift response underscores the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military and local security partners to maintain pressure on insurgent groups and prevent further destabilization in the North-East region.
