Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano State has announced the immediate closure of two privately-run female hostels in the Hotoro and UDB Road areas of Kano, the state capital.
The university, in a statement issued by the institution’s Vice President of Campus Life, Dr Hamza Garba, on Monday, May 12, said the hostels were shut over safety and disciplinary issues.
Garba stated that the closure involved the withdrawal of official recognition previously granted to the Al-Ansar Indabo hostels.
Garba said the hostels were found to be in violation of institutional policies governing student housing, with multiple breaches reported.

He stated that the measure was part of the university’s broader commitment to maintaining a secure and morally responsible living environment for students.
He further directed students currently residing in the affected hostels to vacate the premises immediately after completing their semester examinations.
“Management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive,” Garba added.
