The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a woman, Zaliha Shuaibu, for allegedly killing her co-wife’s three-month-old baby by feeding him acid in Malari village, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the tragic incident occurred on May 13, 2025, within the family compound shared by Zaliha, her husband, and the baby’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim.
Trouble began when Maryam reportedly left her infant son alone in a room to use the bathroom. Upon returning, she found her co-wife, Zaliha, holding the baby.
She quickly noticed signs of distress in the child, including foam coming from his mouth and an injury to his neck.
The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following a prompt investigation by the Divisional Police Officer of Soba Division, Zaliha was apprehended.
During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed that she carried out the act with the assistance of her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently at large.
Zaliha reportedly told police that Lawal provided the acid used in the fatal attack.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has vowed that the case will be thoroughly investigated and all those involved will face justice.
He also assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Lawal Muhammad.
The police have urged anyone with information on Lawal’s whereabouts to come forward.
